Fernando Azevedo was co-foundor of the surrealist movement in Portugal in 1947. Studied at Escola de Artes Decorativas António Arroio and at the Escola Superior de Belas Artes de Lisboa.The instability and even the short life of the surrealist movement have probably determined other artistic courses of Fernando de Azevedo in the world of illustration, theatre and art criticism. Azevedo had an important role in the diffusion of Portuguese and international art. Fernando de Azevedo, the artist and the citizen converged in art and in society. He was active member of the Democratic Artists Movement. Fernando Azevedo was as well President of Sociedade Nacional de Belas Artes since 1979 until his death.
