Biography

Victor Chab was born in Buenos Aires city, September 6 th in 1930, in a family of Jewish immigrants. When he was thirteen, just after primary school, Chab had a clear calling for painting. Self didactic, member of many workshops- briefly at Cecilia Marcovich and Demetrio Urruchúa´s - until he came across the free workshop MEEBA (mutual for students and graduated from Art) where he exercises the skill. In 1947 he got the second prize in the XXVI Annual Exhibition at MEEBA. In 1952 he met Juan Andralis , pupil of the surrealist painter Battle Planas , with whom he became close friends with a deep intellectual understanding. He studied French to be able to read directly the texts by André Bretón and the surrealists who became his poetic referents. It was a time of a great thirst in which the artist got systematically in contact with the contemporary and universal art.
