British painter and commercial designer. He studied at the Moseley Road Secondary School of Art in Birmingham (1953-55), at the Birmingham College of Art (1955-59) and at the Royal College of Art in London (1959-62). In the last institution he produced, with fellow students, some of the first Pop Art works. In 1964 he moved to the United States but settled first in Switzerland and, in 1988, in Mallorca. He took the aesthetics of the machine more seriously than the majority of his contemporaries and, in 1980, temporarily distanced himself from Pop Art.
