German photographer who studied at the Dusseldorf Academy between 1977 and 1985, under Becher. He did single portraits of his family and friends and large coloured portraits of heads in a sober, documentary-like style. After 1987, he photographed German buildings selected according to his personal interest, rather than their style or characteristics. In 1988, he received a fund for young artists awarded by the Nordrhein-Westfalen state and, in 1989, he produced black and white photographs of the night sky using material from the South Europe Observatory. In 1992, he participated in the Documenta 9 in Kassel and, in 1995, at the Venice Biennale. In the mid 90s, he began making synthetic computer manipulated portraits.
