Chec painter, photographer and collage artist. He studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague and was a member of a vanguard group called Devetsil. He collaborated with the painter Toyen and became one of the main figures of the Check Surrealist group of 1934. In 1935, the first Surrealist exhibition was held in Prague, where Styrsky showed various works including paintings, collage and photography. Between 1934 and 1938, he produced the "pictorial poems" consisting of collages made from fragments of photos. In 1941, he illegally published, with the poet Jindrich Heisler, a short book where, through photos and poems, they presented a savage criticism on Hitler's dictatorship.
