French painter born in Paris who studied at Académie André Lhote. His work progressed between Surrealism and Abstraction. In 1931 he was mostly influenced by Hans Arp. In 1932 Vulliamy joined the Abstraction-Création movement and came in the company of Mondrian, Herbin, Arp and Sophie Tueber-Arp, Villon and Kupka and other painters of younger generation. Five or six years later he was to change vigorously to surrealism. It seems that Abstraction-Création had functioned, without knowing, as a secret laboratory of the 35-45's.
