Born in Lisbon. He attended the Institute of Engineering which he abandoned in order to devote himself to painting. He attended St. Martin’s School of Art in London, where he continued his studies under the supervision of John Latham. In 1967 exhibited his work at the Lisson Gallery. He lived and worked in London until 1975. He was awarded the First Prize in the 1967 GM awards sponsored by General Motors. In the 1970s his style was around the nature and use of a gestural, spontaneous line.
