Italian painter. In 1970, studied Architecture at the Universitá degli Studi "La Sapienza" and acquired a studio where he produced drawings based on his childhood memories and dreams. Boetti, Beuys and Twombly were some of his early influences. In 1971, he exhibited his first collages at the Giulia Gallery, in Rome, and in the years that followed his frequent trips to India were the main source of his inspiration. In the mid-70s, he turned against formalism and Conceptual Art. His first large scale oil paintings were produced during a stay in New York (1981-82) and later presented at the Whitechapel Gallery in London and in Stockholm. He took part in Documenta 7 in Kassel and, in 1984, produced works in collaboration with the painters Jean Michel Basquiat and Andy Warhol. His paintings combine abstract forms with figurative elements making him, along with Chia and Cucchi one of the major representatives of Italian Transavanguardia.
