Biography

A plastic artist, born  in Folkestone (United Kingdom). In her work, the light is not an instrument or a condition but a subject by itself. The artist chose to inverse the usual relation between lighting and object. Light is the main substance of her work. She experiments with it, structures it under various forms. A substance then, but impalpable. It is a paradoxical condition that interests Ann Veronica Janssens, this propensity that light has to oscillate between the definite and the indefinite. The means and the forms of Ann Veronica Janssens are minimal, the effect delicate. That is what makes the strength of her pieces, which find a balance in their structural simplicity, allowing a direct emotional relationship with the work and the space. The critic Hans Theys mentions humility when referring to the works of Ann Veronica Janssens: “Humility is having the right look. Not to see too much as too little. Trying to see things in their place. Not to interfere. Humility, in art, is translated into necessary interventions, with economic means which one adapted to the environment.”   Solo exhibitions (selection): 2007 An den Frühling, Museum Morsbroich, Leverkusen June, Chapelle du Genêteil Centre d’Art Contemporain, Le Carré, Château-Gontier, France 2005 Eröffnung, Esther Schipper, Berlim Galerie Micheline Szwajcer, Antuérpia 2004 Freak Star, Galeria Toni Tàpies, Barcelona 2003 Ann Veronica Janssens – 8’26”, MAC Galeries contemporaines des musées de Marseille, Marseille.
