Biography

Born in Elbeuf (Normandie, France). After a PHD In Literature for which he presented a thesis on Klossowski and Sacher-Masoch, he chose to make a preliminary study on Klossowski in one of his three short films. The works of Coulibeuf are embedded in the search for contemporary creation. Changing cinematographic genres (fiction, experimental, documentary), lengths (short, middle, long) and presentation of the image (16 to 35 mm projection, installation, photography), his movies question to which extent art represents reality.   For his following long featured films, he adapted the universe of his contemporaries such as Michelangelo Pistoletto in 1998 (l’homme noir).  In 2000, he directed MICHEL BUTOR MOBILE, a film about the universe of the writer which borders between a documentary and fiction. He also proposes to explore the glance of choreographers like Jan Fabre in GUERRIERS DE LA BEAUTÉ  and that of Meg Stuart in SOMEWHERE IN BETWEEN.   The film Balkan Baroque (Here and Now) 1999-2007 owned by the Berardo Collection is an experimental fiction. The autobiography, both real and imaginary, of Marina Abramovic, Body Art artist. The film composes the life aesthetic of a woman in her era, with a personal history strongly marked by the Yugoslavia of Tito, everyday violence, the experience of physical and psychic limits... The voluntary evocation of the past makes something more secret, more intimate crop up: an unknown evolution that is embodied in fictions felt like authentic fragments of truth. Balkan Baroque jumps from one identity to another, from a true story to an imagination, from a dream to a ritual...
