Biografia
Nasceu em Grangemouth, Stirlingshire.Reside e trabalha em Hertfordshire e St Lucia, West Indies. 1937-40: Edimburgh College of Art. 1941-46: Serviu na Artilharia Real. 1946: Primeira exposição individual, Grantís Bookshop, Edimburgo. Trabalha como músico de jazz. 1947-49: Viaja bastante na Europa. 1948: Galleria Michelangelo, Florença; Galleria Sandri, Veneza. 1949-53: Trabalha como joalheiro. 1950: Gimpel Fils, Londres (onde posteriormente expõe com frequência). "Aspects of British Art", ICA, Londres. 1956: Primeira exposição nos Estados Unidos, Catherine Viviano, Nova Iorque. 1956-59: Gregory Fellow em Pintura, University of Leeds. 1958: Retrospectiva, Wakefield City Art Gallery, Yorkshire (circulou por Londres, Liverpool). 1959-60: Dá aulas na Central School of Arts and Crafts, Londres. 1960: "British Painting 1720-1960", Pushkin Museum, Moscovo (circula por Leninegrado). 1970: "British Painting and Sculpture, 1960-1970", National Gallery of Art, Washington, DC. 1971: Trabalha como músico de jazz profissional. Primeiro disco lançado. 1972: Retrospectiva, Royal Scottish Academy, Edimburgo (circulou por Brunswick, Karlsruhe). 1973-75: Membro do Tony Oxley group; dá concertos e faz gravações. 1976: Viaja nas West Indies. 1979: Visita a Austrália.
