Biography

Born in 1966, João Tabarra lives and Works in Lisbon, Portugal. Between 1986 and 1989 he studied photography at the school Ar.Co, in Lisbon. In the same period, he starded working as a photojournalist for several national and international newspapers and magazines, where he acquired experience in documental photography and photo reportage. He abandoned this activity in 1998 to become a full-time artist. In 1990, he created Entertainment Co. together with João Louro, a collaboration that the two continued until 2001. Numerous solo and collective exhibitions include “imagens para os Anos Noventa”, at Fundação Serralves (1993), “Aperto” (1995) and “Love Streams” (1999) in Villeurbanne, France; the Portuguese Representation at the São Paulo Biennial in Brasil (2002), “No meio do caminho tinha uma pedra, tinha uma pedra no meio do caminho” in Coimbra (2003), "Promenades au Désastre" at Circulo de Belas Artes, Madrid (2006), "G", Galeria zdb, Lisboa and Galeria Graça Brandão, Lisboa, (2007).
