Biography
Painter and stage designer, his family went to live in 1925 in Barcelona, where he studied Law and Painting at the La Lonja art school. In 1935, he met Oscar Domínguez and, in 1936, he participated in the Exposició Logicofobista. The few works he produced before the war are Surrealist and strongly influenced by Dali. In 1937, he went into exile in France where he soon joined the Surrealist group. With the starting of the Second World War, he went to Mexico and later to the United States. In New York, he had an important role as a bridge between Surrealism and Action Painting. Later, he became well known for his stage designs for ballet.
