German performance, object-artist and filmmaker, born in Michelstadt. . 1964-69 Studied at the Hamburg School of Fine Arts 1968 First body sculptures in which peacock feathers and other items are worn like clothes. 1971/72 DAAD scholarship to London 1972 Moved to New York 1972-79 Participation in documenta 5 – 9 in Kassel. 1978 and 1982 Made the films Der Eintänzer and La Ferdinanda – Sonate für eine Medici-Villa, later using objects and props from these films for arrangements and installations. In much of her work, Horn explores the physical limits of the human body, which she often extends by using fantastic theatrical props, such as mask of feathers, or gloves with yard-long fingers, or winglike devices operated by the performer. 1986 Won the Arnold Bode Award in Kassel 1994/95 Retrospective at the Guggenheim Museum in New York and Gropius Bau in Berlin. Horn’s videos and performances are choreographic rituals revolving around extensions of the body and the mythical identification of man with nature.
