Born in Shiraz, Iran. Lives and works in London. 1973: Arrived in Britain, having studied drama in Iran. 1976-79: Chelsea School of Art, London. Graduated as a painter, but turned to three-dimensional work within the year. Her sculpture is rooted in the mysticism of Islamic culture, but demonstrates a quest beyond cultural limitations. 1979-80: Became junior Fellow, Cardiff College of Art, Wales. 1980: First solo exhibition, Chapter Arts Centre, Cardiff since when she has exhibited regularly in solo and mixed exhibitions in Britain, Europe and America. 1982: Kettle's Yard, Cambridge. Venice Biennale; "Summer Show 3," Serpentine Gallery, London; "Hayward Annual," Hayward Gallery, London. 1983: Massimo Minimi, Milan. Greta Insam Gallery, Vienna. "New Art at the Tate," Tate. 1984: Lisson Gallery, London (where she has subsequently exhibited frequently). 1985: "The British Show," organized by the British Council (travelled to Perth, Sydney, Brisbane, Melbourne). 1992: "Isthmus," Lisson Gallery, London.
