Biography
British painter and sculptor born in Newcastle. Studied at London's St Martin's School of Art from 1960 to 1964. For the following five years he lived in New York, worked for Robert Indiana, and in 1965 was artist in residence at the Aspen Institute for Humanistic Studies, Colorado. His rebuilding of Kinkell Castle in Scotland won a Civic Trust award, and for five years, from 1970 to 1975, he ran a tapestry workshop in the castle, he later established a bronze foundry there. In 1976-1977 he was visiting professor of painting and sculpture at the University of New Mexico, and more recently has taught sculpture at Columbia University, New York. He has had many individual exhibitions in Britain and America over a period of thirty years, and has taken part in numerous group exhibitions, namely: 1963 Young Contemporaries, RBA Galleries, London, 1964 ICA, London, 1968 Prospect 68, Kunstverein, Düsseldorf, 1970 Richard DeMarco Gallery, Edinburgh, 1977 Max Hutchinson Gallery, New York, 1983 Herbert Art Gallery, Coventry.
