Biography
German architect and painter, Robert Michel joined Bauhaus immediately after finishing his studies at the Hochschule für Bildende Kunst in Weimar, in 1917. In 1918, he began using collage technique giving up drawings and wood engravings. In the same year, he established his own studio in Weimar and, in 1921, began using photographic reproductions of technical objects in his collages, together with drawings and spray paintings. He also worked on the production of commercial posters and, in 1927, opened an architect's office in Frankfurt. In 1955, he returned to his artistic activities and, until 1969, executed various paintings and collages, some of which included actual objects, such as cogwheels.
