Biography
British writer, artist and surgeon. In 1908, she studied at the Royal College of Music in London and, in 1914, at the Royal Victora Infirmary in Newcastle. She was a surgeon in several hospitals and worked with the International Red Cross. In 1922, she returned to England and started her Psychology studies. In that same year, she began researching into Criminal Psychology at Birmingham Prison. In 1934, she went back to the private practice of medicine and, in 1935, she met Reuben Mednikoff with whom she produced joint projects. In 1938, she attended the 15th International Psychoanalytic Congress in Paris and, in August of the same year, she received the manifesto Towards an Independent Revolutionary Art from Breton. In 1938-39, she published the article "The Scientific Aspect of Surrealism" in the London Bulletin and, in 1939, "Automatic Art". In the mid 50s, Grace Pailthorpe, with Mednikoff, directed the School of Art Therapy and, in 1951, she opened a private consultancy in London.
