Biography

Pascali was born in Bari, Italy. He graduated from the Accademia de Belli Arti, Rome, in 1959, and that same year contributed to an exhibition of theatre set designs at the Festival of Two Worlds in Spoleto. From 1960-64 he worked in publicity and television, and during this period of research and isolation, he made neo-dada works that he did not show. Began to be interested in recovering materials. Then, in 1965, had his first one-man exhibition at the Galeria La Tartaruga Rome, where he presented one series of feminine anatomies. First performance Requiescar at the La Salita Gallery, Nettuno. Participated at the collective exhibition Aspetti dell'arte italiana contemporanea that was shown in Cannes, Rome, Dortmund, Köln, Oslo, Belfast, Edimburg. After a series of works on the theme of antiquity and the past, he executed Finte Sculpture, fictitious sculptures of animals, and Mare (The Sea), part of a series of Elementi Naturali presented at Attico Gallery, Rome, Iolas Gallery with an introduction by G.C. Argan and at the Ars Intermedia Gallery, Köln. The artist's last one-man show was held at the 1968 Venice Biennale, where his sequence Ricostruzione della Natura was exhibited. Died in an accident in 1968. A vast retrospective was devoted to Pascali at the Galleria Nazionale d'Arte Moderna, Rome.
