Biography
Born in Barcelona, where she studied at the Fine Art School. Solano participated in several international exhibitions, she won prizes and worked on projects abroad, some in collaboration with famous architects. She participated twice at Documenta in Kassel, 1987 and 1992. Also twice her work was shown at the Venice Biennale, in 1988 and 1992. The artist received the Special Prize by The Utsukushi-Ga-Hara Open Air Museum of Tokyo (1985). In 1988 won the National Fine Arts Prize by the Ministry of Culture of Spain. Solano has contributed, during the eighties, to the renovation of the peninsular sculpture. The material most used is iron. Solano explores the dialogue between lightness and heaviness, strength and subtlety, obscurity and transparence. Susana Solano had a show at the Sintra Museum of Modern Art - The Berardo Collection, in 2001.
