Biography

Italian painter, designer and photographer. He studied with the painter, Carmelo Violante and the critic, Raffaelo Giolli in 1924. At the beginning of the 30s, he was in Paris where he attended the studio of Fernand Léger and got involved with the vanguard circuits, particularly the Abstraction-Création group, of which he became a member. He also followed the activities of Bauhaus closely, especially in terms of graphic design and Laszló Moholy-Nagy's systematic experiments with colour. Veronesi showed an early preference for photography, beginning with innovative abstract photograms and continuing with the conventional photography frequently used in graphic design and advertising. In 1932, he exhibited his abstract creations for the first time at the Il Milione Gallery in Milan. Veronesi was particularly interested in interpenetrating forms, producing rigorously geometrical compositions based on simple, transparent elements.
