Biography
Scottish painter, born in Glasgow, where he attended the Glasgow School of Art (1978-82 ). In 1979 was awarded John D. Kelly Memorial Medal. After graduating he went on a Fulbright Scholarship to New York, where he stayed for five years. His early work was in the field of installation and performance art, and elements of performance continued through into his painting. The paintings were theatrical, and characters frequently absurd, as they posed and gestured often apparently oblivious of what was happening around them. In 1983; first one-person exhibitions: Barbara Toll Fine Arts, and John Weber Gallery, New York. Selected exhibitions: 1986, Forty Years of Modern Art 1945-85, Tate Gallery, 1990, British Art Now, Setagaya Museum, Tokyo. Lives in Glasgow.
