Biography
Dinos and Jake Chapman (1962-) (1966-) Brothers of British origin, living in London. Dinos and Jake Chapman's life-sized resin and fibre-glass figures look particularly disquieting. For example a ring of mannequins that seem to be children with all sorts of genetic anomalies manifested in absurd combinations of arms, heads, legs and torsos, some of which have penises instead of noses, anuses instead of mouths. These fantastic obscene creatures, unrestrained and full of irony are the products of an inner convulsion, a transgression. The work seems also to refer to the way youth and sex are fetishized in our culture. It also reminds us of standardisation, of genetic engineering and mutation. In 1996 they had solo exhibitions at the Institute of Contemporary Arts in London and in 1998 in the Victoria Miro Gallery (London) and Daniel Templon (Paris). Some group exhibitions: Sensation, na Royal Academy em Londres (1997), Life-Live em Paris (1996) and in Lisbon (1997) and at the Stockholm Moderna Museet (1998).
