Germain painter and graphic artist. He studied at the Karlsruhe Academy and under Emil Orlik at the Institute attached to the Museum of Arts and Crafts in Berlin. (1908-14). Studies continued (1920-22) under Walter Conz at the Karlsruhe Academy, where from 1924-25 Hubbuch himself taught drawing. He participated in the exhibition Neue Sachlichkeit at the Kunsthalle Mannheim, and in the following year took part in the exhibition of the same name at the Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam. In 1928 was appointed Professor at Karlsruhe. He was a member of the Vereinigung revolutionärer Künstler (ASSO), an association of revolutionary artists. In 1930 he was co-founder of the journal Monatsschrift für Zeitkunst, Zeitbetrachtung, Satire und Karikatur. In 1932-33, published a collection of drawings entitled Deutsche Belange (German Interests). He was dismissed from his post and forbidden to paint or exhibit and during the war (1939-45) painted flowers at the Majolika factory in Karsruhe and at Schmid-Schlenkers, a firm in Schwenningen making cuckoo clocks, while he was active in anti-fascist organisations. He taught architecture at Karlsruhe Technical College (1947) and was professor of painting at the Karlsruhe Academy (1948-57).
