Biography

British sculptor, commercial designer and painter of Hungarian birth. After having studied sculpture in Budapest, he became a member of the MA Group. His early works, many of which were political satires, show a strong Dada and Expressionist influence. In 1921, produced his first Constructivist works painted on canvas or wood. In 1922 and 1924, he exhibited with artists from the Der Sturm group and between 1924 and 1927 he worked at the Berlin City Architects Department. After 1929, Peri rejected the formalism of his Abstract works and began creating small images in clay and plasticine, many representative of everyday life. In 1933, he left Germany and moved to London where he became a founder-member of the Artists International Association. His first one-man show in this city was at the Foyles Art Gallery in 1936.
