Biography
Painter born in Haiti. In 1957 he left his country to study in New York, at the Art Students League, until 1960. He settled in Paris in 1961, and became involved with the Surrealists, and the Pop Art, experiences that he brought to the Nouvelle Figuration, changed into subjective preoccupations. In 1964 he participated in the exhibition Mythologies quotidiennes, in Musée d'Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris. Télémaque produced his first collages in 1967: he explored sensations and materials, at the same time a new flexibility of forms and the metaphors they allow. The most recent collages offer more abstract compositions. In the 80's he returned to painting, when he received an important public art commission (La Vallée de l'Omo, Cité des Sciences de la Villete). He lives in Paris and recently had a retrospective exhibition of his works in Johannesburg, South Africa, in 1997.
