Biography

Born 1923 in Chelmsford, Essex, Great Britain. He joined the army at 19 and was on active service in France and Germany in 1944. He was severly wounded and awared the Military cross. Between 1949 and 1952 he attended the Royal College of Art. Here he was taught by Ruskin Spear and John Minton. He began teaching in 1954 at Chelsea School of Art, moving on to Regent Street Polytechnic, Cambridge School of Art, St Martin's School of Art and finally to Norwich School of Art where he was appointed Head of Department of Fine Art. He remained here until 1984 when he retired. In the same year he was elected Keeper of the Royal Academy, in charge of the Schools and was a selector of the RA Summer Exhibition in 1985. Unfortunately his health forced him to resign as Keeper in 1986. Middleditch died in 1987.
