Between 1915 and 1916 he became friend with the Sonia and Robert Delaunay who came to live in Portugal, and by then he got near the group of the Orfeo and of Almada Negreiros. During this period he exhibited in Lisbon and Oporto. His work was a field of experiment of the different movements, from cubism, to dadaism, futurism, abstraction and expressionism.
