French artist born in Paris. 1965-72 Studied at the École Nationale des Beaux-Arts in Paris. 1979-82 Designed scenery for the miniature Italian theatre at the theatre Le Palace, in Paris, and experimented with various stage set techniques. 1980 Performance of his play La règle du jeu at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Ghent. In 1987 painted his first Indienne, a free-hanging canvas, 7.60m wide and 4.10m long based on the theme of Dante’s Divine Comedy. Up to 1988 produced further Indiennes. 1981: Retrospective, Palazzo Decezio, Noto. 1984 Venice Biennale (and 1986), New French Painting, MoMA, Oxford (travelled to Southsampton, Edinburgh), 1987 CAPC Musée d’Art Contemporain, Bordeaux, 1989 Stedelijk Museum (travelled to Düsseldorf), 1992 Museum Moderner Kunst Stiftung Ludwig, Vienna (travelled to Budapest). Lives in Marcilly-sur-Eure.
