Biography
Born in Biella, Italy. Lives and works in Turin. Self-taught in art. 1934: Family moved to Turin. 1956: Started to paint seriously. 1960: First one-person exhibition, Galleria Galatea, Turin. 1962: Started work on "mirror paintings" - silhouetted figures on steel sheets, placed so they reflected the image of the spectator. 1964: Started to make sculptures. Galerie Sonnabend, Paris; Galleria Sperone, Turin. "Niewe Realisten," Gemeente museum, The Hague. 1965: Galerie Heiner Friedrich, Munich. 1966: First exhibition in US, Walker. "The Object Transformed," MoMA. 1967: Palais des Beaux-Arts, Brussels; Museum Boymans van Beuningen, Rotterdam; Albright-Knox Art Gallery, Buffalo. 1970: Devised and developed "actions," and "happenings." "Land Art/Arte Povera/Conceptual Art," Museo Civico d'Arte Moderna, Turin. 1974: Sidney Janis Gallery, New York. 1976: Performance, Venice Biennale. 1978: Worked in Berlin. 1979-81: Travelled in US, giving performances. 1982: "Documenta 7," Kassel. 1986: "Aspects of Italian Art 1960-1986," Kunstverein, Frankfurt. 1988: Staatliche Kunsthalle, Baden-Baden; ICA, PS1 Museum, New York. 1990: Witte de With Museum, Rotterdam. 1993: National Museum of Contemporary Art, Korea. 1995: Museum Moderner Kunst Stiftung Ludwig, Vienna.
